Raaj Shaandilyaa delivered one of the funniest films in recent times, Dream Girl, in 2019. He has now turned producer with multiple films in his kitty. And the first film that is all set to go on floors is Janhit Mein Jaari. Directed by Omung Kumar, the film recently made news when it came to light that lead actress Nushrratt Bharuccha is playing the role of a condom sales executive. Meanwhile, just a few days back, the makers revealed that they plan to shoot the film in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama exclusively, Raaj Shaandilyaa further gave details on the shooting schedule. He revealed, “Janhit Mein Jaari is going on floors in the second week of August. We were supposed to shoot the film in April. Now we plan to film in August once the guidelines are in place.”
The film, which also stars Pavail Gulati, was supposed to be shot in Uttar Pradesh. In an interview to a tabloid a few days back, he was quoted as saying, “According to the guidelines, we cannot shoot in Uttar Pradesh. The state witnessed a spike in cases, and things may be improving now, but we cannot venture into the state until further notice.” Raaj Shaandilyaa added to this point, “I thought of shooting in places like Bhopal and Chanderi as it’ll be new locations for me. Also, Chanderi and even Jabalpur have not been explored much.”
Chanderi became known to moviegoers 3 years back after the horror comedy Stree (2018) was shot there. At this, Raaj in his trademark style said, “Stree mein apne Chanderi night mein dekha tha. Hum aapko Chanderi din mein dikhayenge!”
Interestingly, last month it was reported that Rakul Preet Singh will be playing the role of a condom tester for an upcoming project. This film in question will be directed by Tejas Deoskar, who made the Marathi film, Bucket List (2018), starring Madhuri Dixit Nene. The industry and trade got worried as both films have similar themes and it can lead to negativity. In the past, we have seen how a lot of controversy occurred over the release of Bala and Ujda Chaman, both of which dealt with the issue of a man facing premature balding. In March, Pagglait and Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi too seemed similar and were even shot in similar homes. The controversy started when Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi team cried foul.
However, Raaj Shaandilyaa has assured that there won’t be a problem. For starters, he revealed that characters of both films work in the condom industry but are not doing the same job. Raaj added, “In Janhit Mein Jaari, Nushrratt Bharuccha’s character is a condom sales executive. She goes to chemists and villages to promote contraceptives. How she gets into trouble is what forms the crux of the film. It’s a social satire with a great message.”
Raaj further added, “Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP is producing the other film. Interestingly, I took the title Janhit Mein Jaari from none other than Ronnie sir. Agar hamari film similar hoti, toh na who mujhe title dete aur na main unse leta! I had asked him if he’s going ahead with the film. He said he is and added that it is different from my film.”
In other words, both the makers were aware of each other’s films and its plot. Raaj Shaandilyaa further gave another trivia, “I was supposed to co-produce Janhit Mein Jaari with RSVP. But Ronnie sir already had the script of Rakul’s film. So he informed me about it and we decided to individually produce our own films.”
The situation is similar to that of Sultan and Dangal. The former starred Salman Khan while the latter featured Aamir Khan. Both the flicks released in 2016, were about wrestling and had a Haryana setting. Raaj Shaandilyaa agrees that this analogy is apt for the current situation and stated, “Dono filmon mein akhara tha. Lekin dono filmon ke pehelwan alag alag the na?”
The first look of Janhit Mein Jaari featured just a loudspeaker. But after the news of Nushrratt Bharuccha’s condom connection is out, one realizes that the voice coil in the loudspeaker in the teaser poster is actually covered with a condom! Raaj Shaandilyaa is happy this subtle touch went unnoticed initially and that the condom bit hence was a surprise for most moviegoers. However, he clarified, “Janhit Mein Jaari has a lot of elements – family angle, revenge drama, a social message etc. It’s not just about condoms! And despite being a film on condoms, it’ll be a 100% family entertainer!”
