Ganapath - A Hero Is Born is all set to release in cinemas on October 20. With the release less than a week away, trade experts told Bollywood Hungama why they are excitedly looking forward to the Tiger Shroff-Kriti Sanon-Amitabh Bachchan starrer, set in the future.
Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi said, “What I like about the trailer is that it’s a movie which is playing to Tiger Shroff’s strength, which is his ability to do great action and martial arts on screen. And it’s also unlike his previous action films, be it the films of Baaghi or Heropanti series. There seems to be a novelty in storytelling. There’s a new universe and more value is added rather than just relying on Tiger Shroff’s ability to do great martial arts.”
While stating that “Tiger Shroff is an absolute mass hero,” Akshaye Rathi added, “The storyline of this film and the scale seems like it’s catering to a mass audience. Here’s hoping the aam junta of the country is impressed by the film.”
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh noted, “Tiger Shroff is extremely hardworking. At the same time, the film has a very striking star cast in the form of Amitabh Bachchan and Kriti Sanon besides Tiger.”
Kriti Sanon’s badass character has its share of admirers. Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, opined, “What stood out for me in Ganapath’s trailer was Kriti’s action avatar. She seems quite convincing.”
Akshaye Rathi agreed, “Kriti has a very interesting screen presence. She made her debut with Tiger Shroff which was also an action movie - Heropanti (2014). With the shots we have seen in the trailer, I think her presence will make for an interesting watch.”
Taran Adarsh made a valid point, “Kriti is looking very good. We usually associate action films with male stars or heroes fighting the villain. But why not have women fighting the baddies? That adds so much novelty and uniqueness to the film.”
And of course, Amitabh Bachchan’s casting adds to the impact, feel experts. Akshaye Rathi opined, “Mr Bachchan’s very presence takes the film’s stature up by many notches.” Girish Johar added, “Personally, I am a fan of Amitabh Bachchan sir. Every outing of his is eagerly awaited.”
This year, mass action entertainers like Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan emerged as Rs. 500 crore grossers. Hence, a lot is expected from Ganapath - A Hero Is Born. Taran Adarsh said, “Mass films have worked this year. I genuinely hope that a film like Ganapath also follows suit.”
He further said, “Ganapath - A Hero Is Born is set in the future in the year 2070 AD. The film has a very unique concept and Vikas Bahl is a good director. He’s not one of the usual masala directors. So, hopefully, he has made a film which stands out.”
Girish Johar remarked, “Films like Ganapath, which are hard-core action entertainers, should cater to the latest trend of mass films doing well in cinemas. It’s upto the audience now. Hopefully, if the makers pump up the promotions and go all out, it’ll grab even more eyeballs.”
Meanwhile, the makers are geared up not just for Ganapath - A Hero Is Born but also for its possible sequel. Taran Adarsh spills the beans, “This film is made in two parts. This is the first part. They have shot some portions of the second part. The shoot will be completed once the first part gets released.”
