Bringing together a set of not just amazing actors but also strong women is the debut production of Taapsee Pannu. Being a feminist herself, Taapsee has put together an unlikely cast with Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sanjana Sanghi in Dhak Dhak, a film about self-discovery. It features the four women setting out on a bike road trip to the hilly regions of Ladakh and Dia, in a candid interview, revealed that it wasn’t an easy task.
In fact, Dia Mirza revealed that the entire team including the cast had to face some challenges owing to the weather and climactic conditions in the region, amid which Fatima Sana Shaikh also experienced epileptic attacks. However, Dia went on to assert that she was impressed with Fatima’s dedication towards the craft. “The oxygen was thin, the routes were hard and Fatty had a few situations where she had an epileptic attack. But within seconds, she got up and did one of the most dramatic and significant scenes in the film. I’ve sobbed not because she’s a brilliant performer but looking at her sheer commitment as an artist," Dia to News18 Showsha.
She continued speaking about the issues they experienced while riding their bikes, as she added, “On a normal day, just as a rider, it’s hard enough. Imagine travelling with a crew strength of 200 people and caring for them! We had all kinds of sickness happening because the oxygen levels were low after a certain point. There were extraordinary challenges.” However, she concluded on a happy note as she stated, “But we ate hot food and got access to everything we needed to be strong, comfortable, and happy."
Dhak Dhak revolves around the story of four ordinary women who set out on an extraordinary journey to the highest motor-able road in the world. Directed by Tarun Dedeja, the film is slated for release on October 13, 2023.
