Social media is a place where celebrities get instant attention for whatever they post. It acts as another validation of their stardom with millions of fans always eager to know what they are doing. But it also has a flipside as there can be occasions where a celebrity is trolled; sometimes for no fault of his or her. Veteran actor Suniel Shetty recently spoke about how nasty social media can be at times.

Speaking on the podcast The Ranveer Show, Shetty said, “Today’s time of social media there is no privacy, it destroys your life. One sentence edited in 15 different ways, put out in 15 different ways and it’s destroyed our lives. You know it’s made it impossible. I’m scared to talk.”

Shetty added that it is because of such atmosphere on social media that celebrities are forced to be diplomatic in their opinions. “We’ve been forced to be diplomatic because you’re hammering me otherwise for something that I have not done and who’s hammering me? Somebody I don’t even know on Twitter or on Facebook. Abusing me, my family, calling my daughter a b**ch, calling my mother, for what? That hurts because I come from the old school.”

But there are times when Shetty finds it difficult to stay mum. “You know I’m a Shetty boy. I would never keep quiet. Today they’d say ‘You know he’s using his strength to do this’ and not realising how much the other individual has probably damaged me and hurt me,” he said.

On the work front, Shetty was last seen in the Amazon miniTV web-series Hunter: Tootega Nahin Todega. It also starred Esha Deol, Rahul Dev, Barkha Bisht, Karanvir Sharma and Teena Singh.
