Madhuri Dixit is all set to mark her digital debut with the Netflix original series The Fame Game. She plays superstar Anamika Anand who goes missing. When Anamika goes missing, the investigation uncovers the messy truth behind her seemingly picture-perfect life and family. Madhuri, who is a superstar in real life as well, says she is very different from Anamika Anand. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Madhuri pointed out how different the two superstars are.
The show also makes use of Madhuri’s hit songs to give the feel of a superstar. When asked about how much she relates to her onscreen superstar character and whether it is based on anyone’s life, Madhuri said, "To begin with, it is a fictitious story. This is not anyone's story nor is it anyone's autobiography. The show starts with her being a very big star. So I think they have used some of my hits to give the feeling that she is a very big star, like I am in my real life. They have tried to use that to begin the story with that she is a big star- Anamika- and this is her life. Not that everybody's life is like that. This is her life, her journey. We hear different stories about different people. I think all of that has been brought into one script. It's not like everyone's life is like this, they are not always sad. We are happy in our own lives. We have some sad moments, sometimes tragedy strikes like I lost my father and I was very sad but I had to start working again and I was on the sets and I was smiling for the camera. But that is an incident, not our entire life."
"But Anamika Anand is a leading a different life. Her life is a troubled life. She is doing everything she can. She is living the life she did not want in the first place and she is living it to the fullest. But she is unable to do that. She feels like her family is falling apart and trying her best to keep them together. That is the sadness of her life that she is carrying forward. Her dynamics with her kids, husband, her mother is very different from the dynamics with the people of my life. So that is something that I had to borrow from different experiences of different people that we have heard about in their autobiographies and make it my own and own it basically," she added.
Further speaking about how much fame matters to Anamika Anand, the actress shared, “In my life, people come and tell me, ‘Oh we are your fan or my mom is your fan’. But my reactions are very different. I take it at face value. I say, ‘oh really! That's nice’ and I move forward. For Anamika, fame is everything. She is holding on to it because she knows that is what is keeping her family together, that is what she is going to survive. So for her it is very important, every little thing said to her is important to her. So these kinds of insecurities are there because of what she is going through her in life. She reacts in a slightly different way than what people would.”
The suspenseful family drama also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Manav Kaul, Suhasini Mulay, Muskkaan Jaferi, Lakshvir Saran, and Rajshri Deshpande. The series is directed by Bejoy Nambiar and Karishma Kohli and backed by Dharmatic Entertainment. The series will start streaming on Netflix from February 25, 2022.
