The award season looks different this year amid the pandemic. The Primetime Emmy Awards 2020 took place virtually in order to keep everyone safe. Jimmy Kimmel returned as the host and began the celebration of the TV industry from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 20, 2020.

Schitt's Creek made a clean sweep in the comedy categories as Stars Dan Levy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, and Annie Murphy took home awards virtually from Canada. Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II won respectively for HBO's limited series Watchmen. Mark Ruffalo accepted the lead actor award from home for the HBO movie, I Know This Much Is True.
